This game runs horribly! How can I speed it up?

Check my Oblivion INI tweak guide, located here. Read through the document, and change your settings accordingly.

How do you check current quests?

On PC, Hit F4 and click on one of the tabs. One will list completed quests, one will list current quests, and the other will list your active quest.

How do I drop things from my inventory?

Shift-click on them. You can also drag them off the inventory page. Xbox users: read the damn manual. We don't care about you.

How do I take screenshots?

Go to My Documents/My Games/Oblivion, theres an Oblivion.ini file, open it in notepad or something and look for "bAllowScreenShot=0" then change the 0 to a 1 and save. Use the "Print Screen" button, and it will save a .bmp to the directory where you installed the full game.

Help! I'm in the tutorial, the King just died, and I'm lost!

Check behind where the King was. There should be a hole in the wall.

How do I level up?

Once you gain 10 levels in any of your Major Skills, you will get a message stating you should "Sleep and meditate on what you have learned.". This is your key to find somewhere to sleep. When you wake up (even if its just an hour later), you'll be given the screen to advance a level.

How do I recharge a magical item?

You'll need a soul gem, filled with a soul (this requires a Mysticism skill). Alternatively, you can get the Mage Guild to recharge it for an obese amount of money.

Will Oblivion run on my computer?

I don't know. Read the official website - it lists everything there. But, to be honest, the game is fairly scaleable, so a lot of low-end systems -can- run it, they just need to turn down a lot of the graphic options. Particularily slow systems may benefit from INI tweaks like removing grass/etc.

Vampire (Hemophilia Poryphyra) Questions!

Thanks to Knob:

"Once you contract Hemophila Poryphra or whatever it's called, you have a few days to get it cured, or fullblown vampirism sets in. Vampirism does NOT break the game.

As a vampire, you get a minor bonus to a couple stats. Not anything major. However, each day you go without feeding give you more bonuses, more powers, and makes you scarier. There are four levels. After four days of not feeding, npcs will not speak to you unless you use Vampire's Seduction on them (which raises their Disposition to 100)

However, if you feed, you revert to the basic almost powerless level of vampirdom, and people will speak to you again. It is entirely possible to play as a vampire as long as you keep yourself fed.

How to feed? Find a sleeping NPC. Target him. Hit spacebar. You will be asked if you want to feed from him or talk to him. Choose feed. Feeding does not harm npcs, nor does it infilict them with vampirism.

A fully fed vampire has nothing to fear from the sun. However, go hungry for a few days, and sunlight will begin to burn you. The longer you've gone unfed, the more it burns. So feed regularly or plan accordingly. Also note: A vampire that has gone unfed for four days is a combat monster, so plan your feedings to get the most out of your monstrous powers.

This has been a quick Vampirism FAQ. Thank you and goodnight."

Note that to fix the Hemophilia Poryphyra disease, all you have to do is visit a church. However, once you are a full-fledged vampire, it involves a length quest to berid of the disease.

How does this stupid persuasion wheel work?

Read the Manual! It explains it well. For those who are still confused, try this verbose walkthrough. This is the tactic I use, and is pretty foolproof (though not always the most efficient, you're almost always guaranteed a gain):

As soon as you begin, mouse-over each quadrant to discover this particular NPC's likes and dislikes. Two quadrants he will like (one a lot, one only slightly), two he won't (again, one a lot, one only slightly). What you want to do is click on a quadrant he hates when the orange glow is the smallest in that quadrant. For quadrants he likes, you'll want to click on it when it's the most full you can get. This ensures you'll lose the least respect on the "bad" quadrants, and gain the most on the "good" ones. My tactic is to find out where the smallest "orange glow" section is. As soon as it lands on either one of the "bad" quadrants (or if it starts there), click on it. Get the "bad" quadrants out of the way as soon as possible. As soon as that's done (or the only other "bad" quadrant currently has a rather large "orange glow" section), start clicking on the good ones. Ideally, you'll have the largest "orange glow" in the quadrant that makes him the happiest, but it doens't always work out that way. But it shouldn't matter - if you get rid of the "bad" quadrants first, you'll almost always come out ahead. Repeat this a few times, and you'll max out your disposition in no time!

Where can I find/purchase lockpicks?

If you are a member of the Thieves guild, your Doyo will sell them to you. Occasionally at night there will be venders roaming around Imperial City that will sell you some. Your only other alternative is to kill Goblins - they tend to have them more frequently than other monsters.

Thanks to theseconstantshurt:

"I'll say it again because I think he's overlooked by many people, but Shady Sam will sell 30 lockpicks per day. And he's always in the exact same spot, 24 hours a day. Exit the imperial city, (facing the stables) and hug the right wall. He's in a corner. Blam, easy picks."
